FINE GEORGE III STERLING SILVER COFFEE BOT; ELEGANT BROAD SHOULDER PARTIAL FLUTED FORM; GADROONED RIM; ACANTHUS MOUNT SPOUT; LEAF CAP VINE AND SHELL SCROLL FEET; ORIGINAL CARVED RUFFLED ACANTHUS CAP FRUITWOOD HANDLE; NEVER MONOGRAMMED; JOSEPH HARDY, LONDON, 1821; 31 OUNCES This is a uniquely designed, beautifully hand crafted George III English sterling silver coffee pot. From the London firm of Joseph Hardy. Date marked 1821. Hardy apprenticed under John Davis in 1762. Free 1786. First listed with Thomas Lowndes in 1798. Second mark alone 1799. Died 1827. Little more is known iof this silversmith. Though this coffee pot illustrates a remarkablly creative design and fine finish detail. Executed in raised urn form. Broad shoulder, tapering to petal fluted lower body. As you can see from the images, the form is quite unusual. Powerful, without being too heavily ornamented. Wide, overflow gadrooned rim. Skillfully cast wide high arched spout. Lavishly carved ruffled acanthus mount. Unique heart shape opening to spout. For ease of dispensing your favorite brew. Thick, recessed circular cover. Well fit. Topped with elegant panelled, bud form finial. Raised upon urn form pedestal base. Petal fluted surround. The coffee pot with original, beautifully carved fruitwood handle.
