ENGLISH STERLING SILVER INKSTAND DATING 1772. FANTASTIC DECORS IN REPOUSSE. !! - ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL - !! !! - DO NOT MISS IT - !! ANY QUESTION IN ENGLISH OR FRENCH ? YOU ARE WELCOME ! The more elegant sterling inkwell proposed on ebay. This inkwell is one of the most decorative ever seen and the most representative of the elaborated barocco style. The whole piece is a real marvel of repoussé art. A dream... All decors are in relief and pierced all around the inkwell. Decorated with mascarons and animals. All masks are different and so are all animals also, monkeys, turkeys, goats, stags and sheeps. The base is a dish hallmarked London 1772. The glass inkwell is fixed in the center of the dish and covered with a pierced and repoussé top restaured in the victorian era in 1877. A lion is placed on the cover. You have to considere the inkstand as beeing a 18th. century piece of 235 years old even if a restauration was made 130 years ago. Some reliefs (bubbles) on the dish are pierced by the age of the piece but as the whole decor is originally pierced, these marks of wear are not shocking at all. Only one noze of one mask is pierced. All other decord are in perfect condition. The inkwell is gorgeous and certainely will be the masterpiece on your desk...
