A fine old English Victorian Rosewood and Brass Tantalus with 3 Square Lead Crystal Decanters. Made in England about 1860. Please see My Other Auctions on Ebay for a similar English Victorian Oak and Brass Tantalus with 3 Cut Glass Crystal Decanters. I am selling these for an elderly lady who is a client of mine and who is a descendant of one of the old British Colonial planter families of Jamaica. She is 83 years old and this Tantalus belonged to her Great-Grandparents. It originally came from Dunedin, the Great House of Lacovia Estate, an old sugar plantation in St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, and it has been in the same family for almost 150 years. The measurements of the Tantalus are as follows: Height: 12 inches Length: 14 inches Width: 5 inches The Tantalus is in Mint Condition. The Lock is still in perfect working order and has the original Key. A wonderful conversation piece for display in a Gentleman's Study or on the Sideboard in a Formal Dining Room. A real relic of old plantation life in Jamaica, when every Great House had its own Butler and rich British Colonial sugar planters lived in feudal splendour like English Lords. The 3 Square Lead Crystal Decanters were purchased from Baccarat in Paris many years ago by my Client and her late husband, who was a Lt-Colonel in the British Army. However, they do not bear a Baccarat mark or signature. All 3 Decanters are in Mint Condition. Please keep an eye out for My Other Auctions on Ebay this week, when I shall be selling a Magnificent Victorian Half Tester Plantation Bed, made in Jamaica about 1860, and several other fine pieces of Jamaican Colonial antique mahogany furniture, that also came out of the same plantation house in Jamaica.
