Up for auction is a very rare historic Ensisheim meteorite fragment with a province extending from Alain Carion which this fragments comes from the Ensisheim meteorite fall that fell on November 16, 1492 in Ensisheim Alsace, France. What makes this meteorite special is that its the oldest meteorite whos fall can be dated precisely and had a great historic impact which ranges for over 500 year in history. I'm a member of the International Meteorite Collectors Association, member number 1633, so ! History of the Ensisheim fall The Ensisheim is the oldest meteorite whose fall can be dated precisely. On Nov. 16, 1492, near noon, a loud explosion preceded the arrival of a 127-kg stone meteorite in a wheat field near the village of Ensisheim in the province of Alsace, France , which at the time was part of Germany. There was only one eye witness, a young boy who led the local populace to the field, where the meteorite lay in a hole a meter deep. After it was retrieved, the towns folk, believing the object to be of supernatural origin, begin to chip off bits for souvenirs, until stopped by the local magistrate. This meteorite became famous because it caught the attention of a king - Maximilian (1459-1519) the “Rome King” and was told by his advisors it was a pledge of God’s favor of him. Many of these fragments ended up in museums around the world. The remaining specimen, a rounded gray mass weighing only 55 kg and nearly without any fusion crust , can be seen today at Ensisheim resting in an elegant case in the middle of the main hall of the Regency Palace built in 1535 by the emperor Ferdinand of Austria. But the rich history doesn’t stop there. The Ensisheim meteorite also made it in the Holy Bible in 1835 publication. LL group: The low-iron, low metal (LL) chemical group of ordinary chondrites, distinguished by their low siderophile element content, fairly large chondrules (~0.9 mm), and oxygen isotope compositions that are further above the terrestrial fractionation line than those of other ordinary chondrites. . type 6: Designates chondrites that have been metamorphosed under conditions sufficient to homogenize all mineral compositions, convert all low-Ca pyroxene to orthopyroxene, coarsen secondary phases such as feldspar to sizes ≥50 µm, and obliterate many chondrule outlines; no melting has occurred.
