The Entomologist Vol. 82 (January – December 1949) cd N. D. Riley (ed.). The Entomologist, an Illustrated Journal. Volume 82: 1949. pp. [i] – iv + [1] – 280 + [v-xix] and three plates. 12 monthly journals, with original printed paper wrappers with advertisements bound in. Contemporary smooth, plain green cloth (the spine is unlettered). The list of contributors is bound in at the front whilst the index and special index are bound in at the rear of the volume. A ‘snap-shot’ of the British entomological scene following the end of the Second World War. A fascinating reference book. Not of the least interest are the dealers’ and other advertisements on the bound-in paper wrappers. This seems to be scarce. Upon a cursory check on the main UK/North American book search web site I was unable to locate any copies for sale for this year. Please note that volumes 78 (1945) and 79 (1946) are listed separately. 1. This auction is in £ (GBP Sterling) 2. In the UK I accept payment either by Sterling cheque drawn on a UK bank, or by PayPal (which I prefer) 3. Payment is to be made, please, within 3 days from the close of this auction (if you bid, but know that you are going to be away at the close of the auction and that there is likely to be a delay in making payment, please warn me in advance). Postage & Packing This volume weighs approximately 535 grams unpacked. If sold on its own, it will be sent by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery (i.e. ‘Signed For’ as it is now known), Second Class, at a cost of £4.50, which includes a contribution towards the cost of packing. Please note that a signature is required on delivery. If sent with specimens, please be aware that the weight of the book will increase the normal combined postal charge because of the significant increase in weight of the parcel. For items sold on the same date and paid for together I will be happy to combine postage but please wait for me to send an invoice with the reduced postal charge before making payment (otherwise eBay will apply the full postal charge) and note that if the combined value of the items exceeds £50 the parcel will be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, First Class, as a Medium Parcel at a cost of £9.00, which includes packing. Special Delivery provides compensation cover up to £500.00. Royal Mail Compensation For parcels sent by ordinary first or second class post (and subject to its terms and conditions – for which see /compensation), in the event of loss Royal Mail will provide a postage refund plus compensation of up to only £20 where evidence of posting and value can be provided. Claims must be submitted within 80 days from the date of posting. The same applies in the event of damage, save that all damaged packing and content must be retained and presented to Royal Mail upon request. For parcels sent by Recorded Delivery (i.e. Royal Mail ‘Signed For’) Royal Mail will provide a postage refund plus compensation of up to £50 where evidence of posting and value can be provided. As above, claims must be submitted within 80 days from the date of posting and packing should be retained in the event of a claim for damage. For parcels sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, for lost or damaged items, Royal Mail will provide basic compensation of up to £500 where evidence of posting and value can be provided. Claims must be submitted within 14 days from the date of posting. The same applies in the event of damage, save that all damaged packing and content must be retained and presented to Royal Mail upon request. Returns This is an auction so returns will only be accepted, at my discretion, in the event that specimens misdescribed.
