A red box stamped with two fleur-de-lis containing 13 "eolian pitch pipes". Each pipe stamped 'John Greaves & Son', with diamond trade mark. John Greaves & Son, of South St, Sheffield, brass founders and steel converters, makers of tools (working 1839-1845). Made many variations of very small postal/coin scales and other similar items using nickel-silver. Greaves advertised their postal scales and pitch pipes Oct 1840. Perhaps no relation but a "W. Greaves" also of England made razors at the turn of the century 1800. It would not surprise me if the craftsmanship was passed down from the father "W. Greaves" to his child "John Greaves" who then worked with his son, forming "John Greaves & Son".Interesting piece of history. A wonderful gift or addition to the collection. Each pipe is 38 mm long with a 10mm diameter and individually labeled with their specific pitch (A, A_, A# etc.)Box is 42 mm tall x 61mm long x 39 mm wide
