ABOUT MEGALODON: The Megalodon (pronounced MEG-a-la-don; meaning "big tooth") was a giant shark that lived between about 18 million to 1.5 million years ago and was the apex predator of its time. The species became extinct in the Pleistocene epoch about 1.5 million years ago. At more than 49 feet long (the size of a semi trailer) it is the largest carnivorous fish known to have existed. Fossil evidence has revealed that Megalodon fed upon large animals, including whales ! See this Wikipedia article for more details. This specimen were found by my friend who dives for them in 120 foot deep waters 15 miles off the coast of South Carolina. The exact location is secret but they are found so far out because millions of years ago the water level was 90 feet lower due to much of it being locked up in glaciers and polar ice caps. With lower sea levels, the coasts were further out, as were the river deltas. These huge sharks would prowl up the larger rivers for miles inland looking for prey and in the process lose teeth while they fed. WHO AM I?
