Ephraim's RARE RETIRED Climbing Beetle Vase by Ephraim Faience Pottery artist, Ken Nekola, signed. This piece is hand thrown with hand-applied, in full relief beetles (three of them perfectly balanced around the edge). T were only 93 of these made (and this limited number was made in both curdled blue and green so t are ultimately even less in this color); this vase is in the mottled shades of blue, with some green and a deep gold color. The vase measures approximately 4" across at the rim x 5 across at the widest point x 3" at across the base x 11" high. The impressed artist / Ephraim Faience pottery marks are on the bottom (see photos). I purchased this vase sometime in 2002 and it was retired in 12/03. I purchased this vase directly from Ephraim Faience for it's original list price of 225.00. Abbreviated from Ephraim Fiance's site "The artist Ken Nekola has over 30 years of experience as a potter. His experience, skill and artistic eye are evident in his exquisitely formed vases, earning him the well-deserved title âeoeMaster of Symmetry. Even though Ken was an experienced potter when he joined EFP, he maintains that working in our studio has influenced his sense of form. He has also gained a greater appreciation for the Arts and Crafts movement and the pottery of that era. Ken enjoys the collaborative work environment he shares with his coworkers, whom he calls âeoecreative and talented.âe He has also enjoyed going to shows, which has allowed him to meet collectors and listen to their feedback on his work.Working at EFP has also influenced how Ken looks at nature. He now seeks out decorative motifs in the natural world around him. When creating new work, his goal is to merge form and decoration into a seamless whole. Ken finds it personally meaningful to be able to integrate his interest in nature with his interest in pottery. Quotes from Ken âeoeItâe(tm)s very rewarding,âe he affirms. âeoeIâe(tm)m looking forward to refining my potting and sculpting skills both technically and artistically,âe. Itâe(tm)s difficult to believe that his technique needs any refining, but Ken is a perfectionist who strives for artistic and technical precision in his work. Itâe(tm)s that dedication to the art and craft of pottery that continues to make Ken an important and valued member of EFP. " My buy it now on this piece is an excellent price for someone who knows and prizes the value of this artists wonderful work or for those who prefer to risk bidding, I have very, very reasonable reserve of not much more than the price I payed. This has been in my personal collection in my pottery case since purchase. I am only selling this vase because I returned to school and I have to fund my education. This is an extremely clean piece: t are no stains, chips, nicks nor stains nor repairs. This is an earlier piece. This unusual vase has a lovely design and wonderful sculptured beetles. T are three beetles that are placed around the top of this piece; their heads rest on the vase rim and their bodies hang down the side and connect with the body of the vase by their backsides. The glaze is a wonderful blue crackle that has a gold and color that flows down the vase. The glazing on this vase is exceptional! This vase was retired on being made. It measures 8" high by 5" wide at the top. It is in excellent condition with no damage of any kind, this has Ken Nolan's signature stamp. This is an unusual vase from a very limited run that doesn't come up for sale very often. 's your opportunity to add a wonderful, older piece to your collection. This piece will be shipped and insured for the auction price and the packing and shipping charges from UPS Store. Please wait for an invoice before paying for your item.
