Auction is for a spectacular mid-century art glass pitcher by Erik Hoglund of Sweden. A stunning vintage piece from the 1950's featuring a crystal clear glass pitcher in the shape of a torso with sculpted, dimensional cobalt blue glass nipples. Bottom of pitcher is hand marked/numbered (see last photo with arrow) and still bears the original BODA - Sweden - Erik Hoglund label. In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage. Concave pontil on base. Tiny air bubbles trapped at the time of creation may be seen inside the clear glass surface. Attached curved handle. Measures approx. 7 1/2" tall. A rare, striking piece for display - and a very unique serving pitcher. Erik Hoglund is considered one of the most innovative glass designers of the 20th century. Much of his glass is very different from other Swedish glass design of the time. He designed at Boda from 1953 to 1973. He won the Lunning Prize for excellence in design in 1957 and taught glass design at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass Centre in the United States in 1973. He died in 1998. Many of his pieces, like this one, are signed with the production number and "H" for Hoglund. Pitcher will be shipped double-boxed for extra safety.
