Sankaat is pleased to present for your consideration this Ernst Wahliss Wien porcelain "Royal Vienna Plate"! This 9.5 inch plate was created by the Ernst Wahliss' decorating studio, which was noted during the late 19th century for its excellent recreations of the porcelain created by the Royal Vienna Porcelain manufactury (which closed its doors in 1864). Ernst Wahliss created wares in the most exact style of the Royal Vienna factory, using some of the same molds used by the Royal Vienna factory. This hard paste porcelain plate is marked on the reverse with Earnst Wahliss' studio mark, an enameled "Royal Vienna" shield (beehive mark). The decorator covered the manufacturer of the blank's mark, a common practice for Dresden and Paris studios. The border has been decorated with a red / maroon ground which has been gilded with a "Royal Vienna" decoration. The central enameled scene at first appears to be entirely handpainted, however upon closer inspection it can be noted that it is painted over a transfer, tfore NOT entirely handpainted. The condition is good with some wear to the raised beaded gilding on the heavy inner gold band. This plate would be ideal for the Continental hard paste porcelain cabinet plate collector who appreciates the style, quality and craftsmanship of pieces decorated by the world renown German porcelain studios.
