Roy Weyiouanna, of Shishmaref, Alaska carved this interesting family group of walrus, The group shows a bull, cow, and a baby standing next to the mom. All are carved from one piece of whalebone vertebrae and set onto a whalebone disk. The mom and dad both have walrus ivory tusks, with baleen inlaid eyes. Excellent carving and a large size make this a very nice display piece. Very nice detail to the flippers and the rolls of skin. The base measures 8 ¼ inches at it's widest point, and the carving is 5 inches tall including the base, the longest ivory tusk measures 1 ¾ inches. This piece shows the true artistic ability of the native Americans that live and work in Alaska.
