ESTATE ~ NO RESERVE ~ 4/4, Full SizeAntique GERMAN MAGGINIVIOLIN Beautiful, Powerful Sound ~ Listen to it Below A unique and unusual handmade antique violinin the manner of Italian maker Giovanni Paolo Maggini, whowas a renowned maker from Brescia, Italy in the late 1600s.The powerful voice of this violin speaks for itself. The violinist is a student and who welcomes your feedback. I shot this live video using my little point & shoot camera...tare expensive microphones used; no computer or studio soundaffects. The piece is being played is an an excerpt of the solo sonata for violin in D major op.115 - 1st movement Beautifully inlaid double purflingin the style of Maggini. The scroll is extraordinary...beautifully hand-carved...deeplyand sensuously cut...and of course, it bears the characteristic extra turn at the head of the scroll that is a Maggini hallmark. The sound holes are meticulously cut. This is a very high quality antique instrument.Note the unique, distinctive scroll with its extraturn also associated with Maggini. Please study the photos and listen to the sound of this violin.If you're looking for a special violin from a time when violin making was done by hand by American makers that were often trained by the by German and Italian lutheirs and were loosely patterned after Stradivarius, Guarnerius, Stainer, Vuillaume & Amati violins of the 19th century.This is a full size 4/4 violin; body measures 14-1/4" long,8" across the lower bout, 6-1/2 across the upper bout.Overall length is 23-1/2".This violin absolutel glows with it's original varnish. It is a golden honey color that just glows with a authentic patina that only father time (well over 100 years old) can produce. This violin is beautiful, a masterpiece of fine violin-making. It bears an original, old label that indicates it isa Brescian instrument. I believe that it is not Italian, but rather a veryhigh quality German made instrument. But the sound is full, warmand robust...it growls in the lower bass strings and sings with a clear voice in the treble end. It has wonderul volume and resonanceand in many ways sounds to me like an violin made in Italy. Listento the sound sample and judge or yourself. Its a fine instrument. The condition is excellent. No sound post cracks, no open seams. This is an exceptional instrument. Everything issolid with just the minor cosmetic playing wear you'dexpect in a violin of this age. Of course, you may wish to add fresh strings and have it set up to your playing style, but it's ready to go now as you can see and hear in the video sound sample.
