From a lovely Maine estate auction and sale, tonight I'll be listing a number of interesting antiques and collectibles including this elegant antique Victorian era sterling silver marked ladies SIX matching piece vanity dresser set consisting of two cloth and hat brushes, one 7 1/4" by 2" and the other about 5 1/2" by 1 3/4", , a hairbrush that is about 9 3/4" in length and op is about 3" across, tortoiseshell comb with sterling trim measures about 7 1/2" by 1 1/2", and beveled round hand mirror measures about 11" in length about 6" across, nail file is about 8" in length...all pieces match in design and are very ornately engraved and monogrammed with the fancy script initials CEB (in that order) and the design of the sterling consists of lots of swirls and curliques and accented with flowers around the center monogrammed cartouche (see close up photos please)...I don't know who the maker is, it is amazing to find a set...the handbrush has a wood backing and it is coming loose of the sterling, I'm sure someone makes replacements, the two clothes brushes - are intact and clean a little of the ivory has chipped off on the base, mirror is very nice and fully intact, a ding on the front and around outer edge consistent with use, handle is excellent.... I was watching Gone with the Wind the other evening and noticed Scarlett had a set on her bureau (obviously not this set, just a set!)! Such a romantic look to have sterling on your bureau! T is a makers mark of an ornate L for La Pierre Sterling of New York, circa 1888 to 1925, a division of International since 1929....$9.00 careful US shipping.
