we are delighted to have the opportunity to offer you this wonderful and rare vintage sterling silver and Larimar bracelet ! It was made with good sized stones, too! Larimar is a rare gem, as it has been found in only one source to date: a relatively inaccessible rugged mountainous region, which overlooks the sea, of the Dominican Republic, an island in the Caribbean Ocean. Larimar first came to the attention of the world in 1974...before , only the natives knew of it, and collected the loose stones along the beach. One day, t were no more to be had, so they followed a stream up into the mountains, and came upon a rugged blue rock formation, the source of these blue beauties of the Caribbean! The gem was given its name by a Dominican native, Miguel Mendez, who took the 'Lari' from his daughter, Larissa's, name. and 'mar', which is Spanish for the sea. The gem is also sometimes dubbed the Atlantis stone, as legend has it that the Dominican Republic lies above the ocean floor win lies the lost continent of Atlantis!
The bracelet is made of 7 gem-set ovals, linked by sturdy bands of solid silver. It measures 7 5/8" long, wearable length, too! The gemstone links are 3/8" in width, and1/2" long. Each polished Larimar gem domes up 1/4" above the wrist. . . The polished, gleaming Larimar stones are fee of chips, cracks and damage. The bracelet weighs 10.3 grams, and has a shepherd hook style clasp which holds securely. The relatively simple sterling silver setting serves to accent the glorious bezel set gems which has subtle marbling of light blue, deeper blue and near white! The sterling silver setting is free of damage , with a warm patina which to the charm ,and really sets off the magnificent marbled blue hues of the magickal gem! ..this dreamy gem is mystical, powerful and may carry some clues to the great mystery of the legendary lost continent of Atlantis ! ( then again, it may not ) Thank you for your interest! p.s. please note that in some of the photos, the sterling silver setting might appear to have a golden hue... that is due to the lighting used in some of the pictures which serves to accent the details. the setting is silver and not gold in any sense ! thanks again! :)
