This is an Estate Sale auction for a very detailed old Chinese bronze figure of Pi Xiu that still has traces of its original gilt finish. The legendary Pi Xiu is believed to attract and hold onto prosperity. This weighty representation -- about 4 pounds -- is cast in bronze. The figure looks appropriately ferocious with wings spread, horns pointed straight up, and fangs bared. The detail continues on the underside, w you can see his ridged belly extending back to his featd tail. It measures 6 1/2" x 6 1/4" x 5 1/4" -- and perhaps it is the size that made us less enlightened Westerners think of this fellow as a mischievous baby dragon! This figure was sent to us by a friend in China who purchased it from a local antiques merchant. We can't document the age of the figure, but its craftsmanship demonstrates that it is clearly not a contemporary reproduction. The piece is in very good condition for its age, with no cracks, no scratches in the detail -- but he does have a small dent in his lower chest which can be seen in the photo of his underside. In addition, as mentioned earlier, t are only traces left of his original gilt finish. All sales are final, so please email with any questions before bidding.
