Included is a writing package for the Esterbrook fountain pen fan: 1. 1 RED purse pen, with a soft, pliable ink bladder and ready to write; 2. 4 Mint (never used) nibs (points), still in the original 1940's box; 3. Filling instructions for MOST types of fountain pens; 4. a copy of one of the nib charts showing all or a good sampling of the 33 that can be found on eBay, a picture of each, a description of the line that the pen makes and a word or 2 written with the particular nib; 5. Originals of 2 period ads proclaiming the benefits of their product; 6. A brief 5 page history of the company that I found on the net. In the 1950's and early 60's, which were Esterbrook ' last full decades of operation (were around since 1858 in Camden , NJ ), they sold for several years these neat little pastel pens. They were positioned as Purse Pens and apparently marketed towards ladies. is one of the extremely hard to find RED colored pastel purse pens , with th red end jewels, trimmed in chrome. This model is slightly ove r 4.25 inches long . The cap band free of hairlines (see pic) and the pen has no noticeable flaws. In fact, it's a really lovely specimen. This is as close to mint as you will see. The pen fills from bottled ink found at office supply stores and online. It's lever filler and the operation has been tested and it works perfectly. (Clear precise instructions for filling this and lots of other types of fountain pens are included). These little pens have really become the popular collectible and they either didn't make very many of them or they simply don't come up all that often. This little guy is in really good condition. The mint nibs - Now this is my favorite part. Unlike most any other pens I know of today with very few exceptions, these nibs easily screw in and out of the bottom of the barrel in no time flat. They really do. Esterbrook was pretty smart and they marketed these pens to folks who probably could not afford to have 5 or 10 pens at a time; instead, t were 33 different widths, lengths, and every other description of nib positioned for just about any writing experience I can think of (ledger posting, all day note taking, students, broad, narrow, flexible, rigid and so on). So the idea, of course, is that when a need (or just a desire) for a different feel is desired, just remove 1 nib and replace it with the next and just like that- a completely different feel. Pretty cool, huh? Enclosed as a part of this auction are the following: 1. The 9284 -This one was sold as the signature stub pen . I only wish more of my modern day nibs wrote as buttery smooth as this one. It's one of their few broads and an absolutely wonderful one to use. (Seriously) 2. The 9550- Esterbrook positioned this nib as Firm, Extra Fine, for POSTING and I agree. It's the best pen I know of for checkbook work, accounting, ledgers, and any other sort of fine work. 3. 9668 - This nib was for General Writing and the little box calls it a FIRM Medium .It's a great all purpose nib and compares very favorably to any modern day medium and absolutely better than most. You will be wonderfully surprised. 4. 9788- This a treat of a nib and very hard to find in mint condition. It's Flexible medium for SHADED writing. This one is lots of fun. The green and white boxes represent Esterbrook 's best nibs and are called "Master Durocrome Renew Points" . I don't find too many of these mint and definitely not with their original boxes. So the included nibs cover pretty well a broad, medium and fine, a good variation, all smooth and fluid. Filling instructions for this pen and for every other type fountain pen I have ever seen are included. Please note the other useful items included as shown above in the top of the post. Thank you.
