This is part of an antique collection of Scottish jewelry I bought at an estate from NY. ALL the pieces are early to MID 1800's except this one which is about 1907. This has the hallmarks , the anchor mark for Birmingham, the Lion Passant silver standard mark, the duty mark for Queen VictoriaÃ,Â's reign and an upper case "C". (1900Ã,Â's). This is gold in color so it may be a gold wash ? The pin is 2Ã,Â" across and in great condition. There are TWO heads in the design of the brooch. It is hollow with Etruscan work that really makes it quite a gorgeous piece! This is a celtic revival copy of the ancient irish brooch dug up in County Cavan, Ireland in the 1800s referred to as the Cavan brooch or Queens brooch (after Queen Victoria). Copies of the Cavan brooch by were done by Dublin jewellers of the mid-1800s.
