A BRILLIANT LAMP FOR A NEW COLLECTOR OR A THOMAS & WILLIAMS COLLECTOR. IN ALMOST SHOW CONDITION Very early SIDE SCREW LOCK JACK DAVY Miners safety Gas Testing Lamp. ALTHOUGH NOT MARKED WITH THE MAKERS NAME - IT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY THOMAS & WILLIAMS ABERDARE, HOWEVER MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT IS MARKED WITH THE PIT COMPAMY NAME AND SO IS VERY RARE INDEED - INSOLES LTD - LOCATED IN CARDIFF AND IN 1923 WAS OPERATING CYMMER NEW PIT, CYMMER OLD PIT, CYMMER UPPER AND CYMMER NO 2 LEVEL; PRODUCING 400.000 TONS OF STEAM COAL PER ANNUM. THEY HAD 3089 EMPLOYEES IN TOTAL, BUT BY 1933 ONLY OPERATED CYMMER NEW PIT WITH 1620 EMPLYEES. THEY WOULD HAVE PROBABLY ONLY HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF THESE LAMPS IN TOTAL. brass, steel construction, with brass vessel, air infeed ring, lower and upper glass cage rings & bars and cast brass domed top with brass lower ring to steel bonnet. Brass hook. Steel upper bars and glass retaining spring. See pics . Four bars to the glass cage.. Flat burner with Ellis type dome, pricker wick adjuster Side screw lock Good gauze that covers the burner and reaches to top of bonnet.Good glass that lifts up to inspect gauze and flame and is held in up position by a spring steel tab and nipple.
