Included in the 1721 edition of Atlas Historique, published by Chatelain in Amsterdam, this large sheet is the seventeenth map in volume one. This impressive map shows the full reach of the Roman Empire across Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. Bordering the central map are two key tables providing a list of influential Roman administrators, emperors, historians and poets, as well as the location of important towns and cities. Filled with numerous observations and historical notes this magnificent map is a wonderful example of Chatelain’s meticulous work.
