This is a set of vintage 1940's salt & pepper shakers designed by Eva Zeisel for Redwing Pottery. They are biomorphic sculptures, commonly known as "shmoo" shape because of their resemblance to the Al Capp cartoon character of the era. There is a larger "mother" salt shaker, standing about 4.5 in. tall and a "baby" pepper shaker at about 3 in. tall. There are no chips or cracks. The light green shaker shows some crazing upon close inspection with a couple of dark ashen 'points' imbedded in the glaze near the openings up top and a couple of other ashen areas in the glaze near the bottom. The blue, larger shaker seems more pristine, but both are in remarkable shape for their age. Please excuse the light reflections. I have bare hanging bulbs in my building so they reflect on the glazes making it look like their are white 'pin pricks' in the glaze...no so...just reflections from lights. Please contact me with any questions. Thanks for looking!
