Offered for bids is this circa 1943 Eversharp EXECUTIVE Skyline fountain pen and pencil in the brown/gold striped cap and brown barrel/derby. This is a true Executive set as the pen measures 5.65 inches in length with the cap screwed on snuggly in place while the pencil measures 5.55 inches in length. As most fountain pen collectors know, next to the Parker Vacumatic, the Skyline represents the classic design of fountain pens during the industrial era of the 1940's. This shape of the pen was actually designed around a steam locomotive popular during the 1930's. These fountain pens are underappreciated for their classic appearance, durability and restorability. They also came in a wide variety of sizes and nib grades to suit the tastes of different writing preferences. The brown and gold stripes of the cap are still very crisp and t is little or no discoloration as is so common in this pattern. T are no chips cracks or bitemarks and the gold filled trim of the clip, tassie, capband and lever is free of any brassing. The only defect I can find is a wear line on the cap w the clip nob rests on the barrel. This is not severe and doesn't detract from the function of the clip or the appearance of the pen. The barrel of both the pen and pencil is tastefully engraved with the original owner's name "H. A. White". The huge nib is the correct 14K gold Executive Skyline nib in a fine point with minimal flex and a full compliment of iridium. The nib has the imprint "Eversharp Made in USA 14K". The ink sac is new and pliable and still draws up and expels water as designed. The pencil is also in excellent condition and is free of any chips, cracks or bite marks. The gold filled trim of the clip, tassie and cap band is free of any brassing. The eraser looks original and unused, but long since petrified. Executive Skylines are hard to come by, especially in a matching pen and pencil set and this beautiful set would make a great addition to any fountain pen collection, especially a Skyline collection, or would make great daily users! I have not tested the pen so I can make no claim as to its writing performance.
