Here's a beautiful old Smithfield Pottery apothecary jar in their cobalt or "midnight" blue glaze. Every shop in the Seagrove and Sanford area made these things, but Smithfields are by far the nicest forms, and by far, the hardest to come by. Herman Cole ran the shop, but he preferred the glaze house to the turning wheel, so he employed a number of talented potters at the operation. Among those were: Thurston Cole, Jack Kiser, Guy Daughtry, W.J. "Bill" Gordy, and the Craven brothers, Charlie (C.B.) and (Lester) Farrell. We think this pot was made by either Thurston Cole or Charlie Craven. It's very well turned, with nicely "tooled" lines in the body. This jar stands 6.5" tall by 8.5" across the handles. This old cobalt glaze is very sturdy, so there are no flakes or nicks in the glaze. There are no chips, cracks, or any repairs on it. Jar ships USPS Priority OR Parcel Select (Economy) Insured Mail, your choice. All items can be picked up in person at our store in Stoneville, NC, if desired. Thanks for looking, and good luck should you choose to bid on it. Ed
