This is an excellent enclosed mahogany and glass analytical balance beam scale made by Voland & Sons Inc. New Rochelle, NY. It is marked thus on the white graduated name plate attached to the base of the column inside. The outfit looks almost unused, but still shows its age by some small corrosion spots to the metal parts and a couple dents to the wood. The balance swings freely and appears to work perfectly. The brass parts retain virtually all of their lacquer.
The outfit consists of- the enclosed glass and wood case/ column/ beam/ needle/ stirrups/ hangers/ 2 pans/ a bubble level behind the column/ drawer/ 1 unused rubber for the feet/ and 3 felt pads. The front door is counter balanced so it opens easily and stays t The drawer is intact and solid and of the 3 plastic or bakelite knobs only the drawer pull has 2 small chips. Inside the drawer on the bottom is stamped- N.Y.C. Approved P.-5 plus Capacity- 5 Ounces- 180 Grams. On top of the drawer front is stamped- 29608. The balance needle has very slight bends. The case measures about 16"L x 7 1/2"W x 15 3/4"H not counting the knobs. It comes with an instruction sheet for setting up the balance. Winner pays Shipping for 23 lbs.
