This sixth plate daguerreotype is a standing pose of a man, he is identified on a slip of paper placed in the back of the case as, "William E. Greathead, DuBuque Iowa, February 26, 1859". This is one of the later dates I've seen for a daguerreotype, most photographic artists having switched to ambrotypes long before then. He is a very common fellow, and I like him for that. One thing of note is hard to see in my pics but is clearer in person, that is he has a front pocket hand sewn onto his trousers, the stitching is clearly visible below his left forearm. The image is in excellent condition with some spotty tarnish but no wipes or scratches, case is excellent too with only minimal wear. The vertical lines visible in the picture are creases in the folding cloth backdrop such as a travelling photographer would use. Very nice daguerreotype, unusual standing pose and with an ID and date.Buyer in continental U.S. pays $5.00 for packing and shipping, to be sent via Priority Mail.
