An exceptional early 19th c. child's embroidered antique silk on linen sampler signed Elizabeth Davis & dated 1841. This early sampler is very detailed & has a verse, birds, tulips, baskets of flowers & different types of stylized potted flowers. The sampler has a wonderful vine & floral border with a verse in the middle which reads: "Grace it is a sweet a charming theme, My thoughts rejoice at Jesus name: Ye angels dwell upon the sound. Ye heavens reflect it to ground. O may I live to reach the place where he unveils his lovely face. Where all his beauties you behold. And sing his name to harps of gold." Below this it is signed Elizabeth Davis, aged 9 years, 1841. This piece is in great condition & the colors are outstanding, it has a couple small areas of scattered loss on the bottom right & around the edges (see pictures). This early sampler measures 12 1/4" wide by 16 1/4" tall without the frame & 14 3/4" wide by 18 3/4" tall with the frame. This sampler just came out of an early estate in Connecticut, I will be listing several other incredible samplers from the same collection over the next few weeks.
