This is a super, extra large spun brass bucket or kettle --- not quite as large as an apple butter kettle, but definitely not the typical 1 or 2 gallon jelly bucket size that's normally found in Pennsylvania. For reference, I've shown it next to a soda can, as well as my little 22-pound Pugs who haven't yet developed an appreciation for their Vanna White role. The kettle measures 17 inches in diameter and 12 inches high, and weighs just about 6 1/2 pounds -- a lot for a spun brass bucket. Hopefully the photos will show the condition. It really is beautiful, though it does show signs of use. In the photos you'll see some bumping on the bottom that came with decades of heat in a fireplace or over an outdoor fire, though the sides are just about perfect. The wrought iron bail handle with rat tail ends is strong and well affixed, and t is just one weak spot (with a pin hole and a small crack) at the bottom edge. I actually never noticed it until I took the photos and you can see the spot in one of the last shots. I also noticed that it's a bit out of round. At one time (likely 40+ years ago) the kettle had been professionally polished and lacquered. I did remove about 98% of the old lacquer since it had darkened and was breaking down in spots. You might want to polish a bit more and re-lacquer to keep it bright for another few decades, or allow it to tarnish naturally. In any case, it really is a great showy kettle, and a size that will hold a host of newspapers and magazines next to your chair, or kindling at your fireplace. If I've missed any information or many answer any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail. Don’tcha just hate the ads that incorporate more “fine print” than item information??!! Since I do, I’ll just touch on some of the basics so I don’t have to clutter up the real ad. But please know that if you have any question at any time--- just e-mail. I check my mail evenings and early morning. -------- Shipping Cost: With very few noted exceptions, I charge the actual cost of shipping. If I slip up in your favor – I’ll pick up the difference. If I inadvertently over-charge by more than $1 – I’ll send you a refund. And since the shipping calculator sometimes seems to have glitches, you’re encouraged to check to verify. I mail from zip code 17003. Shipping Time : With the exception of an occasional item that may require special packaging or preparation, I mail within 24 hours of receiving payment. Pick Up : You are always welcome to save shipping expense and pick up a purchase in either Annville or Lemoyne. Annville is a few minutes from Hershey and Lemoyne is across the river from Harrisburg . Both are in south central PA within a 2 hour drive of Philadelphia , Baltimore , Poconos, etc.. Insurance : Although I offer a choice, I always advise insuring packages. As a buyer, too, I’ve learned that lesson the hard way
