Excellent Matching Pair of Industrial PULLEYS - Old Farm / Barn Tools : Up for auction is an absolutely fantastic working pair of Antique / Vintage Block and Tackle Pulleys. Both pulleys are in excellent condition given their age and both are clearly marked on one side of the blocks: MAN'F'D BY R.I. TOOL CO. PATENTED Previously named The Providence Tool Company, the well know Rhode Island company was known for its ammunition productions and during the civil war the company manufactured weapons for the Union Army. In 1873, the Providence Tool Company also received a contract to manufacture Singer Sewing Machines. After financial hardship, the company reorganized under the Rhode Island Tool Company in 1885 for which these pulleys are marked with. These two pulleys were re-discovered in an old New Hampshire barn recently where they were protected from the elements of our New England weather. To give you a little better idea of our 'New England Weather', I took the pictures of the pulleys outside on Tuesday, March 20th, 2013 - the first day of spring here in New Hampshire.... with a foot of snow on the ground that fell the night before. With these pulleys having very little to no rust, pitting or corrosion to them, it is quite obvious that they were very well taken care of, cleaned after use and protected from moisture. When found, other than being quite dusty these pulleys were in great shape. I've cleaned away the dust and debris and as you can see by the photographs, the metal work is in fantastic condition. The wheels on each of the pulleys spin cleanly and easily and the hooks on both pulleys also turn 360 degrees very easily as well. There are no breaks, cracks or repairs on the pulleys and all of the hardware is completely original to the set. The sheaves (wheels) are spoked rather than being solid as commonly seen and having these spoked sheaves gives these pulleys and outstanding look and appeal to them. Although I've lightly cleaned these pulleys, I have not restored them as you will sometimes find with other pulleys (I have not added any stain, lacquer or paint to the pulleys) and these pulleys are ready to be used around the home , barn or gar age or further cleaned, finished and / or restored for use in a decorative project which would add a perfect industrial touch to any home decor.
