EXCELLENT RARE PAIR ANTIQUE SHAHSAVAN KILIM SADDLEBAGS

RARE PAIR OF COMPLETE ANTIQUE SHAHSAVAN KILIM PERSONAL SADDLEBAGS, NW Persian tribal, Bijar area, circa late 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, and in excellent original condition for the collector. The exact size is: 11" x 31" (28 x 79 cm). Collector's delight. A sweet pair of small personal carrying bags woven in the slit-tapestry technique. Kilim-woven bags from the Shahsavan Federation are seldom found as most of their production were executed in various sumak technique weave structures. This example has a lovely array of 100% natural, plant-derived, dyes and comes in most excellent overall condition with minor professional reweaves to small gouges on the bottom corners (see close up photos). Other than these small reweaves, the item is in perfect condition with the original loops and closure devices at the tops of each bag half (see close up photo). The only other example of this type that I could find in the rug book literature is published by Parviz Tanavoli in "Shahsavan - Iranian Rugs and Textiles", 1985, plate 243. Although the field design in Dr. Tanavoli's piece is different than the one on my offering, the weave technique, color palette, and border surround are identical to the Tanavoli piece. Any collector of fine antique tribal or nomadic weavings will absolutely love to own these small size bags.
