Exceptional folk art represents a time, a culture, craftsmanship and evokes emotions. This antique Swiss cloth doll is for me what collecting folk art is all about. The doll was created for some lucky child with so much care, attention to detail and love that one can only imagine how thrilled the child was to receive such a gift. The doll is 23 inches tall is entirely made of cloth. The face was crocheted & facial features embroidered. The entire costume is also true to the original type of Swiss ethnic costume worn by men and everything was hand sewn so that this doll was lacking in no costume details. He is wearing a cotton shirt with red kerchief, "Lederhosen" with crocheted suspenders and embroidered accents. Even his leather shoes are handmade. And one can't help but appreciate the rustic charm of the doll with his fingernails painted on, stockings, little hat and finely detailed jacket with working pockets and tie at the back. The doll and his clothing has some patina: most noticeably a small hole at the left side of his face.
