The Tiger, by Yukimaru, circa 1890, signed in seal form, impressed, Japan - the surface treatment where the fur is given a velvet chase and the stripes are highly burnished, accentuated & emphasized in the patination, is a trademark of fine Japanese bronzes - "Barye" with whom Yukimaru is compared, even in his most realistic models only suggested stripes, mottling & other markings on the animal. Listed artist 21"L. This is one of the most impressive bronze sculpture, not many of this caliber exist today on the market, examples as fine as this one are housed in Museums & private collections .The extreme detail in this sculpture will give you goose bumps as you study it, the more you look, the more you see, I have had this piece for over 20 years & I still see something in it that I didnt see before! You can see every muscle in this tiger the velvet chasing add incredible dimension to the tigers body structure, the patina is the richest & most lustrous surface you could imagine. The supreme detail & sculpturing of this animal is no accident, the artist Yukimaru must have studied this animal in great detail before sculpting it .Yukimaru is a well documented sculptor & You can see this exact bronze tiger in The Book of Art Bronzes by Michael Forest on page 236.
