THIS ORIGINAL, RARE EARLY AMERICAN BETTY, FAT, GREASE LIGHTING DEVICE WAS MADE OF TIN AND WROUGHT IRON BY A BLACKSMITH ARTISIAN, MOST LIKELY IN THE 18th CENTURY. IT'S THE MOST COMPLETE EXAMPLE THAT YOU'LLEVER FIND. THE NICELY TWISTED WROUGHT HANGER AND IRON WICK PICK HANGS FROM THE BACK POST.

THE GREASE PAN IS APPROXIMATELY 4" LONG AND 2" ACROSS AT THE WIDEST POINT.WHEN HANGING, THE HEIGHT TO THE TOP OF THE HANGER, IS, APPROX. 11-1/2"... CONSIDERING ITS AGE AND USE, IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT ONE THE STEADY STREAM OF REPRODUCTIONS COMING IN FROM OVERSEAS. THIS ONE AND A FEW OTHERS I PURCHASED WERE FOUND IN A BARN IN NW PENNSYLVANIA.

WHILE THERE IS SOME SURFACE RUST, AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT, FROM MANY YEARS OF USE, THERE IS NO SERIOUS CORROSION. THIS IS A REAL EXAMPLE OF EARLY PRIMITIVE LIGHTING.
