Being offered is a very Grueby like Rookwood vase carved in 1900 by an undetermined artist. In addition to the superb 3 leaf or lobed form the vase is expertly decorated with a rare thick leathery dark brown over a matt green and tan underglaze. The firing produced some highly decorative runs and lightly exposed clay body. I can find no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs or crazing on this extremely attractive very early arts and crafts style vase. T is one tiny glaze miss under one of the lobes (see pic). Vase is approximately 7.5" tall and 6" at the widest. Marked with the Rookwood logo, 433 for the shape, and C for the size. Since the year is 1900 t is no Roman Numeral date. To the right of the shape number is a faint part of what might be the glazed over artists mark. It is very faint and may only be spurious. Regardless the vase is artist carved and decorated possibly by Wareham. I did find this shape vase carved into a floral with a standard glaze. Shape 433 was designed by John Wareham as an Ewer and without handle a vase. It came in B and C sizes. It was also possibly carved by him. I did find this shape carved into a floral and decorated with a standard glaze by Wareham. Regardless of the artist you will not be disappointed with this vase.
