A fantastic rare find while antiquing in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (possibly Shaker???). This great large woven splint basket (I don't know what kind of wood) is round on the top with a hexagonal base and measures 26" in diameter and is 9" deep. The round top is meticulously tied every 3 1/2-4 inches for a very sturdy base. The basket has a lot of gray, cloudy-looking areas that are most likely from the reaction of the curds and whey on the wood during the cheese making process. It makes for a stunning patina on a well preserved utilitarian piece that is in very good condition. Thanks so much for looking!! Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end. Please let me know within 3 days how you will be paying. Paypal is preferred, but money orders are fine. Insurance is included in shipping cost. This item requires a very large box so I will ship USPS parcel post because it was cheaper than other services. |
