A sterling silver thimble with an applied band looking as if it was made of plaited silver wires. The thimble has a green semiprecious stone top. The thimble is 7/8" high, a bit under 5/8" or 16 mm. wide. It has a green agate top that shows some small chips. Otherwise this thimble is perfect: in round, without dents, holes or reparations. The inside is gilt and t is a small gilt band above the border. This border is the most stunning part of the thimble: it looks as if 3 x 3 ropes of silver wire are plaited and applied on the plain part of the thimble. T are two hallmarks: 835 S for silver made in Germany and a makers mark "R F". I don't know this German maker. I would say that this thimble was made at the end of the 19th century.
