I am listing two fabulous 18th century Battersea enamel Patch Boxes from the same California collection. This particular patch box is incredibly rare and quite possibly unique. I have done extensive research and cannot find another example. Dating to c.1790 this piece provides an early view of the main Science Library at Oxford University as it was built around 1740. The Patch Box is pink and white enamels with the main image being a transfer print. There is slight crazing in the left margin of the piece but typical of age and material of these Patch Boxes. The inside lid is fitted with the original mirror which is intact and in excellent condition for the age. Measurements: 2 inches long.
