The Official Congressional Invitation Collection of the 56 th Presidential Inauguration

Congratulations! The listing up for consideration is an official, historic collection, commemorating the 56th Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama.

This collection is the official invitation set given to members of the House and Senate. Representatives only received a limited amount of invitations that immediately became collector's items for the lucky few who won an Inaugural invitation through the Congressional lottery system.

Note: This is not a ticket to the event, but rather the official ceremonial invitation. Unlike other document currently being sold online, this is not a mass produced letter from the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

This invitation collection was distributed by Joint Congressional Committee of Inaugural Ceremonies, the official body created by the United States government to oversee the Inauguration.

This limited edition collection includes:

v The Inaugural Invitation with Formal Envelope

The invitation is marked by a deeply embossed golden seal of the President of the United States. This ceremonial document is printed with deep black ink calligraphy on cream colored formal stock. Included with this exclusive invitation, you will receive its original unsealed, unmarked envelope which was used to deliver the invitation to members of congress. The envelope is an essential piece to accompany this collector's item. The envelope reads "Inauguration Ceremonies, United States Capitol, January 20, 2009."

v The Official Program of the Inauguration (the program for Congress and VIPs, not the Blue program sold by vendors to the public)

The official program announces the order of events for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Barack Obama. T is a detailed description of the musical selections for the ceremony, featuring Aretha Franklin and Yo-Yo Ma.

Also included in the program is a special narrative entitled "The New Birth of Freedom," written to commemorate the 200 th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. The introduction to this narrative reads “The fifty-sixth Presidential Inauguration celebrates the 200 th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth and the ideals of renewal, continuity, and unity that he has so often expressed.”

The two official photographs of President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joseph Biden are printed on formal stock and feature facsimile signatures. The photos fit perfectly inside the official invitation, and are separated by archival wax paper.
