This experimental Tantalum coin is minted under the auspices of Sunzarc Metals, Montgomery Illinois, a designand distributing company. Tantalum has great potential in the bullion coin market because it is very serviceable, rare, available, workable, dense, and marketable. *Some of its many uses are in computer capacitors, medical and laboratory equipment, industrial and oilfield uses, and aerospace applications. *It's a rare metal, rarer than silver, and the earth's crust contains only one part per million of Tantalum. *Because of its many uses, Tantalum is readily available to the industrial market and private sector. *Tantalum is, at .999 purity, ductile and easily fabricated. *At 16.7 grams per cubic centimeter. the metal is denser than silver (10.5 g/cm3) and only 20% lighter than gold (19.3 g/cm3). *Presently it's not easy to get daily Tantalum prices, but with the advent of a bullion market, the metal could be listed in daily business forums. As of early 2009, tantalum sells for approximately $240 per kilo (2.2 pounds)in larger ingot form. The present coin measures 22mm by 1.25mm and is weighted in Avoirdupois grams (28.45 grams per ounce). Since Ta is not a precious metal it is not measured in Troy ounces (31.1 grams). The weight of 6.8 grams on this coin falls short of the 7.2 grams needed for 1/4 oz. Av. due to a coin blank read more
