This Magnificent 19th Century French Roman Empire designed Marble clock with a open escapement was found at a recent estate sale along with several other European and American antique clocks. (Please view the pictures below). The clock's beautifully created case was carved from a Black Marble stone and inlaid with a highly grained Greenish color Marble in the two columns on the sides and lower front. The overall height is approx. 10 3/4" tall with a base width of 9 1/2" and a depth of 6". The face of the clock is very impressive and protected behind a thick , clear , beveled and circular shaped glass panel that is trimmed with a polished Brass edging. This panel is also hinged and gives access to the face behind. The face was very artistically created with a outside Porcelain band that is numbered in Black Roman numerals . Inside this band is a Golden circular frame that accents the center Porcelain disk. At the top of this center piece is the 'Open escapement' that still has it's original Ruby pallets (rare) and rocks back and forth on a Golden gear as the clock runs. At the bottom of the porcelain disk is the following names "LISTER & SONS NEWCASTLE". (This is probably the original owner that commissioned this clock to be made).
