(More pictures and full specification below!) This is a beautiful small bowl from the art deco era, made by the Staffordshire UK firm of R H & S L Plant, probably in the 1930s. The bowl is a delicate delight, decorated in glossy black enamel and liberally covered in a random spattering of gold dots, and with gold bordering the edge of the bowl and the foot-rim. In the centre of the bowl is a 3-D relief-moulded posy of brightly-coloured flowers, all hand-painted. R H & S L Plant R H & S L Plant were operating as china manufacturers, producing mostly decorative tableware, at the Tuscan works in Longton in Stoke-on-Trent from 1898. Formerly known as R H Plant, they amalgamated with the Plant Bros in around 1906. The Plant Brothers were e arthenware manufacturers at the Crown Pottery, Burslem from 1889-98, and then at the Stanley Works, Longton from 1898 until they were taken over in 1906. R H & S L Plant were themselves taken over by the Wedgwood Group by the early 1970s. (With thanks to The Potteries website ) Details, condition, marks and spec... The bowl measures 12 cm/4.75" across by approximately 4.5 cm/1.75" high. It weighs 160 gms/5.7 oz unwrapped, and I estimate the final packaged weight will be around 450 gms. It is in excellent condition - I can find no damage at all, and no crazing, and the gold edging and dots are almost perfect. T are some almost invisible lines in the print of the gold dots from the decorating process (see photos below). This is a real art deco treasure, and with such a lovely delicate design. The Plant firm did not produce a wide range of art pottery under their Tuscan name, but those few pieces which can still be found today are gems. This piece is in wonderful condition, and would make a lovely addition to a collection. It is on offer now at a low starting price with no reserve.
