You are bidding on a Coushatta River Cane basket by Ronald Langley. This basket is approximately 6.75" in diameter at the rim and sits about 4" high. There is a broken chain stitch below the rim of the basket in indigo/deep blue and a chevron or flying bird pattern woven at the waist in the same color. This is the largest of the baskets I have listed made by Ronald Langley and the one that appears on the outside of the photos taken of all three baskets together. Please refer to the prior listings if you find you'd like a bit more information about Mr. Langley, he was an extraordinarily talented man and one of the best Coushatta weavers/basket makers that I have ever seen. The largest public collection of Coushatta River Cane baskets that I have visited is at the Tupper Museum in Jennings, Louisiana. I am no expert in this field, but one of the things that attracted me to all three baskets as a group was how the smallest basket has a chain stitch at the rim, the middle basket has a chevron stitch at the waist and the largest basket has both stitches, the broken chain at the rim and the chevron at the waist. All three baskets have different colors woven into them and look spectacular when placed inside one another as seen in the photos. Briefly, Ronald learned the art of weaving river cane baskets from his mother, Lorena Langley.
