This exquisite wooden plate is a stunning example of fine artistic workmanship. In Poland, these decorative ornamental plates are called Talerze (Tah-LAIR-zhuh). They are hand cut and hand lathed. The intricate design is then applied through a rigorous process of carving, burning, etching and staining. Thin strips of copper are then inlaid to highlight the design elements. This particular plate design has more than ten feet of metal inlay. The plate is then varnished to a brilliant sheen. This plate is 9 3/4 inches in diameter (25 centimeters). It was produced in Poland around 1990 when the local artisan societies (called Cepelia) were still flourishing around the country, producing wondrous old world decorative art and giftware items. This handsome plate can be used decoratively as a wall hanging, coffee table ornament, or as an exquisite serving plate. Enjoy looking and good luck with your bidding.
