EXQUISITE Japanese ivory SHIBAYAMA ELEPHANT Meiji Item Description FREE INSURED SHIPPING INSIDE THE U.S. for BUY-IT-NOW!! This is a SUPERB, ANTIQUE Japanese carved ivory Okimono elephant figure - circa 1880, Meiji period.It is carved from a single, solid piece of genuine elephant ivory tusk - guaranteed, grain is clearly visible.A WONDERFUL depiction of an elephant with one leg in the air, trumpeting with his head high up - the ivory is SUPERBLY carved with every wrinkle of the skin and trunk visible, very fine detail and finish.It is MASTERFULLY inset in SHIBAYAMA style with pink coral, tortoise shell, mother-of-pearl and other stones inset into the body and the blanket on its back. It is mounted on a wood base.Condition is EXCELLENT.It measures 6" tall on the stand and 5" by itself x 2 7/8" wide.
