WELCOME TO WONDER VALLEY ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES! This pair of vintage Rosenthal Versailles cups and saucers are simply stunning! I have seen other Versailles patterns, but none as intricate as these, t is so much heavy hand painted gold gilding, and it sets off the delicate hand painted peach floral and green leaves design. Gold decoration in center designs of cups and saucers flow around gracefully and is raised with many small 'dots' of gold. Rim edges and scalloped feet of cups as well as cup handles have heavy gold. Inside tops of cups have light pastel florals hand painted with slightly darker peach used in some areas to set set off the design. Cups and saucers are in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, staining or crazing and the only loss of gold is on backs of cup handles, but it's very faint, hard to even notice and doesn't detract. The snow white porcelain gradually turns to a soft peach from outside the saucer cup wells and cups are white on outside bottoms and turn peach going upwards. The insides of cups are snowy white. All pieces are marked, the cups have the Rosenthal mark in green which was used between 1901-1956 with Versailles under the mark. The saucers have the same mark as the cups and also 'Germany' and red registry numbers as well. Cups measure 3 1/4" tall with a 3" opening. Saucers measure 5 1/4" across. These fine Rosenthal cups and saucers are much more beautiful in person than what my camera could show!
