Exquisite Chinese Pre-ban Ivory Snuff Bottle Late Qing - Early Republic Period This super fine legal Ivory snuff bottle was purchased by myself from a living estate of a Chinese California collector in San Jose about 10 years ago. This man and I worked on jades together for over two years. This snuff bottle was made from the best part of the ivory, which is 'heart ivory'. The snuff bottle is exquisitely hand engraved on the front with two ducks in a pond. The scene is signed by the artist in the upper right hand side of the picture. The back side of the bottle is masterfully covered with Chinese characters and is most likely a poem or fable. T is also a signature on this side, on the lower left side of the poem. The sides and top of the bottle are also delicately engraved with a decorative border and floral motif. Proportionally the bottle is perfect. It tapers on all sides, from 1-3/16" to 7/8" on the front & back, and 7/8" to 5/8" on the sides. The bottle, which is 2-1/4" high, has the original ivory stopper and spoon. It has also naturally begun to get its wonderful golden patina. This is a prized miniature treasure, and it is in pristine condition with no flaws or negatives whatsoever. Because it is ivory this item ships to addresses in the USA only. You may view this item or any of our other antiquities, fine art or artifacts read more
