Here is a truly beautiful old commemorative .925 silver medal, in quite splendid condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 3/8" across, with a plain edge and rather high obverse relief. This classic patriotic piece shows only a whisper of wear, and it has full, crisp detail on its attractively toned surfaces, with some tiny marks and edge imperfections nothing overly distracting. In fact, it is an exceptional early 19th century medal, and I have not cleaned it in any manner - if it has ever been cleaned, I surely cannot see it - that's not to say the fields may have been slightly rubbed. Four of the scans have been "enhanced" for clarity, plus I have also taken four somewhat bright photos, to offer different views. The medal was designed by the famed artist Benedetto Pistrucci, and it has long been considered a masterpiece of the form. The obverse pictures the extravagant leader wearing a laurel wreath and looking noble, and he faces left, with "Georgius IIII D.G. Britanniarum Rex F.D." around the portrait, a tiny "B.P." beneath the neck. The reverse features a scene of the nation's new leader seated and facing left, where three robed female allegorical figures show fidelity by holding one of their hands at an altar flame.
