Queen Victoriahad a love for the amethyst stone and her loyal subjects took their cue from the queen herself and began wearing this beautiful stone that had a long and rich history. It is said that the Amethyst is a stone of the mind. It helps to bring calmness and clarity where there is anxiety and confusion. It helps one get in touch with their intuition. and helps one learn of all things spiritual, mystic and psychic. Since the Victorian people were especially interested in folklore, classical antiquity and occultism, it is no wonder that the Amethyst stone, which fascinated many people for thousands of years, would come into fashion again during this time in history.
I am pleased to offer this magnificent pair of 15K Victorian Earrings. They come directly from the contents of an old Maine estate where the belongings of the family were put up for auction. This wonderful and rare momento of the past was taken from the ladies jewelry drawer. They are in truly remarkable condition. They date to the mid 1800’s. A Victorian masterpiece that surely can be described as Museum Quality! Each earring features 3 Amethyst stones, beautifully cut and bezel set. They are a wonderful substantial size with the slightly larger center stone measuring about 5 mm and the two on top and bottom 3-4mm. The stones are set on a double curled 15K (tested) backing. All around the edge is beautiful Etruscan granulation design of beaded circles. From the bottom of each hangs an old style jointed tassel fringe. From the top wire down to the bottom of the fringe they dangle 2-1/4”. They measure5/8” across the gold backing and extend out about 5/8”. They are being offered as all of my auctions at $9.99 with no reserve. If you love Victorian jewelry as I do, this is a true treasure! Thanks for looking! *** An Ebay buyer just brought to my attention that there is one less tassel on one of the earrings. She was correct. I didn't notice it when I listed the earrings. They are all attached to a tiny gold bar and can slide slightly from side to side. Very hard to see that one was missing. After it was brought to my attention, I actually had to count them before knowing for sure. There are 6 on one and 7 on the other. Sorry for the oversight.
