This beautifully hand-quilted piece features 25 hand-embroidered barnyard scenes and a pale yellow fence border. The quilt measures 84"x82" and weighs 4.2 lbs. The blocks are 9 inch squares. The green blocks are quilted with an intricate cornucopia, pictured. The quilting is very fine, approximately 10-12 stitches per inch. The green binding is hand stitched to the back. The scenes include: a cottage (pictured), tractor, tree, barn (pictured), horse, cow, lambs, donkey?, pig, goat, collie, cat, rooster, chicken, duck, turkey, doves, goose (pictured upside down, sorry), boy fishing, woman churning (pictured), Sunbonnet Sue with flowers, scare crow (pictured), corn shock, well (pictured) and owl with frog. They are rendered in great detail; for example, the corn shocks are seen, in perspective, beyond a fence section with diagonal crossbeam, with a pumpkin, green grass and two mice! This quilt is in very nearly perfect condition with only a dozen or so pin-head sized brown spots, so light in color that they are barely visible. I am auctioning, at the same time, another (almost identical, but in orange and blue) barnyard scenes quilt which was dated by a dealer as "1930's", so I would place this is the same age period. It will be a great addition to any collection or for use in any room setting, whether on a bed or wall. A prize!
