From the Disney Showcase Collection and master micro-sculptor Robert Olszewski - Now Showing - "Opening Night - Steamboat Willie Cast Members Premier" This exquisitely detailed miniature was the Disney Showcase Collection exclusive release at the 2001 Disneyana Convention. The edition size was limited to 500. Sculptures were only made available to conventioneers (or 'conventionears') attending the 2001 Disneyana convention at Disneyland in Anaheim , California . This edition sold out to conventionears during the course of the event. This piece is number 250 of that limited, sold out edition of 500. This incredibly detailed miniature depicts the entire cast of Mickey Mouse's debut film - Steamboat Willie - assembled in a grand period movie theater for the premiere. Mickey and Minnie sit in the front row of the balcony while Bad Pete and other cast members sit close to the stage. Robert Olszewski is an internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor who has specialized in the fine and all but lost art of miniatures for more than a quarter of a century. Sophisticated collectors around the world prize his work. Inspired by the Disney classics, each Olszewski miniature - or micro-sculpture - is a study in anecdotal detail and graceful animation. Each piece clearly defines a moment in a Disney story that unfolds before your eyes. The very art of the miniature with its dramatically intimate scale encourages close inspection and appreciation of that moment. Robert Olszewski personally signed and numbered each of the 500 miniatures in this edition. His signature - as well as the number in the edition - are located on the underside of the base of the piece. The convention price for this miniature was two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00). The secondary market value of this miniature is now upwards of three hundred and seventy dollars ($370.00). This piece is from a private collection. It has never been displayed.
