Friel bottle that may have contained hard cider, soda pop, ginger beer or perhaps some type of alcoholic beverage, due to the color of the bottle. This sure has been a great month for digging up very rare amber bottles for some reason. When these bottles do turn up they are always in aqua and never amber. This darker orangish amber example is in very good condition with minor wear, but there are a few small flat chips on the lower part of the edge of the heel, and the tiniest pin prick 'flea bite' on the top of the lip that is very difficult to spot, (see pictures). The largest chip is 1/2" long but very flat and shallow, and the others are much smaller then reduced to 'flea bites'. This bottle has been lightly polished, and a quick day or two in the bottle tumbler would make this bottle really sparkle. There is some light inner patchy haze that is not too bad. Other than that this bottle is damage free with no checks, bruises or cracks. It has the drippy applied blob top and would date from the late 1860's. This bottle was recently dug in the Homewood area near Pittsburgh with an intact amber Dr. Fisch's amber figural fish bitters in a shallow outhouse pit. The embossing read more
