This is a sweet, complete, ENROLLED Phacops rana crassituburculata trilobite from the Mid Devonian Silica Shale formation of Ohio, USA. The trilobite is 3 " (7.5 cm) long (nose to tail) by 1 1/8" (3 cm) wide across at the cheek . This has been professionally prepared with NO restoration!!! The Trilobite has some compression fractures visible on the nose but is solid and complete inevery way. The weight is 1 1/2 oz or 42.5 gm and will ship easily. ThisPhacops was collected in Paulding, Ohio. The Silica Shale preservation from this area has less pyrite in the trilobites and are not as black as the Sylvania, OH or New York trilobites. They are a rich, warm , translucent brown and tend to be larger at times. The New York and European Phacops rana have been renamed in some literature as Eldredgops but the Phacops rana crassituberculata is still applied to the Ohio species and is more popular. The eye lenses that are so distinctive are very clean in this specimen and number 84 facets as usual for this species and can be counted in these photos.

NO DEALERS! Sorry but I have had nothing but bad experiences with dealers and
none of them have ever followed through! I have mailed photos, sent descriptions and wasted a lot of my time with dealers, all seem to think I should just give these fossils to them! You have no idea how long and hard it is to get these trilobites! They are NOT laying on the ground for you. It takes weeks of negotiations to get into a quarry, then it is weather and the condition of the stone, with a recent blast and no rain, it is covered in dust with nothing to see. Then you start splitting shale with your 10 lb hammers and chisels! In the heat or cold, hauling rock through the quarry mounds, and, on a good day, you may get two complete bugs only! Then I send them and pay hourly rates to have them cleaned! What I am selling represents years of collecting!
Then some dealer wants me to let HIM have them for next to nothing? GO away!
To all the rest of you avid collectors, Good Luck with your bidding and Thanks for visiting!!
